Maybe I am a bad Christian. But I don’t think God sees us as sinners. I mean, he knows us as sinners. But he doesn’t put that label on us.
I think he looks at us and smiles.
I think he laughs and says “they’re so fun,” when he sees us dancing to Thriller or jumping up and down at a show.
I think he nudges his angels and says,
“Look at that painting he just drew.
Listen to how good her voice is.
Watch how he holds his son.
Look at her walk through the city in wonder.
Watch him protect that young woman about to get hurt.
Those are MY kids!”
I think we make God smile and tear up when we finish a marathon and when we lay down our pencil after an exam.
I think we make God roll his eyes and shake his head in amusement.
I think we make God mad too.
I think God says, “Hey buddy, hands off my thirteen year old daughter. You have better things to do.”
I think we make God sad.
Maybe God whispers, through his tears, “Stop blaming yourself for getting beaten all the time.”
I think he says all these things and more, but we just don’t listen.
I also think that more people would come to (or come back to) God if they could re-evaluate how they feel about him.
